Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 4.00 g, 3 h), military mint traveling with Caesar in Illyria (Apollonia?), early to mid 48. Diademed female head (Clementia?) to right, wearing oak wreath; behind, LII. Rev. CAESAR Trophy of Gallic arms, holding oval shield and carnyx surmonted by wolf's head; to right, axe surmounted by animal’s head. Babelon (Julia) 26. Crawford 452/2. CRI 11. RBW -. Sydenham 1009. Lovely iridescent toning. Banker's mark and tiny scratch on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
